CIOs Not Taking a Shine to Chrome

There is an intriguing article at Silicon.com today that looks at the reasons behind certain companies steering clear of Google Chrome. The answers were taken from a “jury pool” that consists of twelve CIOs from small and large companies around the world.

In silicon.com's latest exclusive CIO Jury poll, the respondents revealed they were still steering clear of the application, with 10 out of 12 saying their IT teams are not testing it. Many in the 'no' camp attributed their lack of Chrome testing to their IT infrastructures being set up to run with Internet Explorer as the default browser.

Microsoft, Washington State Sue Over 'Scareware'

Microsoft and the Attorney General's office in Washington have filed several lawsuits against a Texas company over those pop-up ads that scare people into thinking they have computer problems and then offer to fix them for a fee.

It's a "blatant rip off of consumers," Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna said in a news conference. Consumers were "duped into downloading a fake scan (of the computer) and then duped into paying for software they don't need."

Circuit City Posts Loss As Sales Woes Continue

Circuit City says it will initiate a comprehensive review of its business after posting a hefty 2Q loss. Part of the company’s plan to turn things around is improving the “customer experience” in their stores. I don’t have a CC in my area so I cannot comment on the customer service but I am interested to hear about your experiences.

"Clearly, the performance of the company is unacceptable to all of our stakeholders, and it is imperative that we take the right steps to accelerate our turnaround," said James A. Marcum, who was appointed acting chief executive a week ago with the ouster of Philip J. Schoonover.

Apple Tumbles on Consumer Spending Concerns

Apple shares took a 16% nose dive today, the largest drop in seven years, amid concerns Apple and other consumer electronics will suffer as the economy slows.

Two brokerages cut their price targets, earnings forecasts and stock recommendations on the company, which also makes iPod music players and iPhones. "We worry that consensus estimates have not been revised down to reflect slowing global consumer demand and that a broadly positive investment bias ... limits upside to (Apple) shares over the next three to six months," said Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty.
